Appetizers Ethnic Seafood Seasonal Summer Swedish

Swedish Shrimp Salad also called Skagenröra

Swedish Shrimp Salad

I have been wanting to share one of my favorite summer delights for awhile. This is the classic Swedish Shrimp Salad or also called the Skagenröra. It’s simple, delicious and just heavenly. You can eat it with potatoes or as most Swedes do eat it with some toast as an open faced sandwich which makes it a shrimp sandwich also called Räksmörgås!

Swedish Shrimp Salad

I usually just buy the precooked none peeled shrimp and peel it myself. Don’t get the biggest shrimp (no flavor), and don’t get the smallest ones either (mushy), but medium size.  What you really want is this kind from Atlantic Ocean.

Just mix it all together, and enjoy it during a warm summer night with some nice white wine.

And if you are wondering what the other sandwich is – that is my homemade cured gravlax with mustard sauce.

These two sandwiches is a classic childhood summer dinner for me!

I love this dish. Like most Swedish food, it is simple and delicious. For the adventurous, Swedish prawn salad works wonders on a Swedish hot dog!

This is a delicious recipe. I substituted fresh horseradish instead of the hot sauce, and it was a hit. So easy. Thank you for posting!

Smaskigt! I have made this recipe several times, sometimes I serve it on top of lettuce and this evening it was on top of toast with a hard-boiled egg and cucumber slices. Tack, tack!
